Using the Gallery Background Widget in Hipposerve® Studio

The Gallery Background widget allows you to create visually engaging image galleries where images are displayed as large background panels. This style is ideal for hero sections, portfolios, featured content, promotional banners and image-driven designs.

Background galleries provide a modern and immersive way to showcase images while allowing captions, links and additional customisation options.

Adding a Background Gallery

To add a Gallery Background widget to your website:

  1. Drag and drop the Gallery widget from the main toolbar.
  2. Select the Background Gallery layout.
  3. Select the gallery and click the picture editing icon () in the right-hand toolbar.
  4. Click Add Pictures to upload your images.
  5. Click Size in the right-hand toolbar.
  6. Set a gallery size manually or enable Allow to adjust size automatically.
Tip: Automatic sizing helps ensure your gallery looks great across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Managing Gallery Images

You can edit the images and information displayed within your gallery.

To manage gallery images:

  1. Select the gallery layout.
  2. Click the Background element editing button in the right-hand toolbar.
  3. Click Gallery Pictures.
  4. Edit image titles, links, descriptions and other image properties.
Tip: Adding titles and links can make your gallery more informative and interactive for visitors.

Background Settings

The gallery background can be customised to match your website's design.

Click Background Colour to:

  • Choose a background colour
  • Adjust background opacity
  • Create contrast between images and content

Border Settings

You can customise gallery borders to create additional visual separation.

Click Border to configure:

  • Border width
  • Border colour
  • Border style
  • Additional border effects where available
Tip: Subtle borders can help gallery sections stand out without overwhelming the design.

Gallery Types

The Gallery Background widget supports different gallery styles and layouts.

You can change the gallery type and adjust the available settings for each style.

Different gallery types may offer unique display options, transitions and layout behaviours.

Captions

Captions allow you to display additional information alongside your images.

To customise captions:

  1. Open the Captions tab.
  2. Choose how image captions should be displayed.
  3. Set the caption background colour.
  4. Adjust text styling and formatting options.
Tip: Captions are particularly useful for portfolios, case studies and image galleries where additional context is important.

Advanced Options

The Options tab provides additional settings for advanced users.

Within the Options tab you can configure:

  • Anchor names for page navigation
  • Custom class names for styling
  • Additional gallery settings where available
Note: Custom class names are primarily intended for users who wish to apply their own CSS styling.
