Service Action: Starting a VPS Instance
Most of the time your VPS will stay online 24/7, but there are a few everyday situations where you may need to start it manually.
Common examples include:
- After planned maintenance such as updates or configuration changes where you intentionally shut the server down.
- After troubleshooting when you have powered the VPS off to “reset” services and want to bring it back online cleanly.
- After a provider-level reboot or outage where the VPS may come back in a stopped state.
- To resume a paused environment for a dev/test server that you only run when you need it.
Starting your server powers it on so your websites, email, databases, and other services can run normally again.
Quick Guide
To start your VPS:
- Open your VPS in the Hipposerve® Portal (see here).
- In Service Actions, click the Start icon.

If the Start icon is greyed out, it means your server is already running (already in the Started state), so no action is needed.
